Copy Cataloging in Koha From National Library of Pakistan and LUMS

A simple step by step guide for importing MARC records from National Library of Pakistan and LUMS Library, Lahore.

Step 1

Open the Librarian Interface of Koha 3 and click on the Koha Administration Link as shown below.

Step 2

Click on Z39.50 Client Targets Link as shown below.

Step 3

Now click on the button “New Z39.50 Server”, as shown in the picture below

Step 4

A form with the following text boxes will be opened. Fill the form with values shown below for National Library of Pakistan Z39.50 server:

Z39.50 Server: NLP-Pakistan

Hostname: 202.83.163.75

Port: 1111

Database: Default

Syntaxt: MARC21/USMARC

Encoding: UTF-8

Then click the Save button to save the values.

Step 5

Now you can see an entry of NLP in the list of Z39.50 Servers.  To add another Z39.50 server, press “New Z39.50 Server” as shown in red color

Step 6

Repeat the step 4 for LUMS Library Z39.50 server with the following values:

Z39.50 Server: LUMS-Pakistan

Hostname: 203.128.0.3

Port: 1111

Database: Default

Syntaxt: MARC21/USMARC

Encoding: UTF-8

Then click the Save button to save the values.

Press OK button

The form now shows the both library z39.50 server in list as shown below:

Step 7

Now click the Home link or Koha Logo to go on the home screen.

Click on Cataloging Link to start the cataloging process.

A new page will be opened with a button Z39.50 Search as shown below.  Press this button.

A new form will be opened as shown below.  In this form, you can put the search string.  Different search options (fields) are available.

We have used title field with پاکستان as the search term as shown below. Press search button and be sure to select your target server (NLP-Pakistan in this case)

A list of bibliographic records can be seen in the next screen.  These results have be grabbed from NLP-Pakistan as shown in Server column of the following screen. Click on import button on the last column of the record which you want to import into your catalog.

This record will be imported into the data entry form of Koha.  This record now can be modified/edited according to the needs of your library

After editing/modification, press the Save button to enter the item information/holding information for this bibliographic record.

Now this process can be repeated to search results from LUMS library as shown below with the search term “اسلام” in title field. This process is shown in the following pictures.

The following search results have been received from LUMS-Pakistan library.  The desired records can be imported by clicking the Import link

After importing the records into Koha data entry form, the record can be verified, edited/modified before saving this bibliographic record into Koha

    then in response this server will give data in Mark21 format.

    i need to verify that what URL actually build in code behind .
